Joining the 27 club…again
Once upon a time, I owned Fuji’s 27mm f2.8 pancake lens. I sold to fund a lens purchase, I think. It didn’t take long for me to regret my decision. That’s because the pancake lens basically makes the Fuji X-T5 into a souped up X100V. And I could get into sporting events with it. I guess if people see a long lens they assume you’re a professional and won’t let you in without a badge.
Anyway. I miss that lil lens.
I’ve been taking stock of my photography gear lately, and I realized that of all the lens I have, the one I used maybe thrice is the 18mm f1.4. I think I bought it for landscape photography but quickly became bored with it. That was a bad move because the lens was $1k, I think.
So I went down to Dodd Camera and traded in my lens. I was thinking about getting Fuji’s 56mm f1.2, but I already have Fuji’s 50mm. My eyes spotted a Viltrox lens cap and when I asked to look at it, I discovered that I was looking at a Viltrox 27mm f1.2 lens.
If you know me, you know I love Viltrox. Their 75mm f1.2 is my powerhouse lens. So I excitedly traded in the 18mm for the 27mm.
I’m already a fan of Fuji’s 33mm f1.4 lens. That focal length is good for documenting every day life. I think of it as my documentary lens. The 27mm is only a little bit wider, but the extra stop of light will prove helpful.
Today, I took the lens out for a test drive at Wade Oval Wednesday. It is crazy sharp from corner to corner. The reviews didn’t lie.
Can’t wait to explore this focal length some more.
